The cabin is in Northeast Carry in the northeast cove of Moosehead Lake. Exact location will be revealed upon booking for security purposes.
Ideally one 4-wheel drive van or SUV will be rented (rental mitigates risk), but based on availability, two trucks may be used. Participants will meet in Portland on Sunday night (Sunday night lodging not included, options available) and then embark north early Monday morning. Travel to Portland is the responsibility of participants. From Portland, the estimated total travel time including stops is 5-6 hours.
A great portion of the total fee is allotted for food, and most of it will be purchased at Indian Hill supermarket in Greenville. Dietary education will be a focus, but treats are a time-honored tradition of camp as well. A typical breakfast is various combinations of bacon, eggs, French toast, breakfast sandwiches, home fries, and coffee; or none at all (besides coffee of course). Lunch will again focus on protein as part of our education and could include sandwiches such as burgers. Water will both be purchased and obtained from a local spring and filtered. Supper will again have a main protein, a starch, and possibly a vegetable or two. After dinner treats such as s'mores, alcohol, and other sweets will be allowed as we acknowledge they aren't making us better.
Children 11-18 are more than welcome to accompany guardians. Under 13 will be admitted for half price. A check-box and additional steps will be added during the booking process after clicking "Book Now". Ages 13-18 will be full price and/or negotiated on a case-by-case basis which will center around sleeping arrangements and food consumption. Children under 13 are assumed to not interfere with available adult sleeping options.
Beds are first-booked, first-choice and the options are: double bed in a single bedroom, double bed (bottom) in a bedroom with bunk beds, double bed (top) in a bedroom with bunk beds, futon on enclosed porch, couch on enclosed porch, and three cots in the upstairs attic/storage area for a total of 8 indoor sleeping spots with hammocks and tents welcome as well.
While each camp will follow a rough outline of wake up, work out, eat, camp project, eat, fun activity, eat, camp fire, sleep, repeat - a more detailed schedule will be built based on the needs and wants of each group.
Understand you are embarking into relatively raw wilderness away from modern conveniences and the safety they provide. A first aid kit is on site and will be reviewed by the group. Phone numbers for help will be posted. The nearest help may be next door or 4.5 miles away, and the closest hospital (besides Life Flight) would take more than 90 minutes to reach.
